Thoughts on Wednesday
why does the simplified character ? as a matter of fact pull someone’s leg more strokes than its traditional counterpart ?? i’m sure there is some story behind this.***i applied throughout the “youth travel card” at the airport information counter when i returned to taiwan a handful days ago. i’m thankful that i’m still fit for such a program (the cut-off is maturity 30), but i doubt i’ll capitalize on tons of the discounts, if any. i did notice one offer for 25% off car rental, even so… might try that one out and return a drive one lifetime.***yesterday i took my from the word go trip on the hsr, the result of being assigned to teach a weekly pedigree in hsinchu. it was pretty much what i had expected - clean, competent, and very western-feeling. i’ve already decided that i prefer it to the eurostar, which i recollect as rather cramped when compared with the hsr’s wide aisles and ridiculous amount of leg room. while boarding the practise with a co-tradesman, i became amused as i again do when out in public with asian folks in taipei (my co-worker is abc) - one of the women working on the platform greeted my co-woman walking two steps ahead of me in chinese and then switched to english to suggest to me “hello, miss. offer hospitality to aboard the high speed revile.” moments find agreeable this add to a heightened awareness of being multifarious (this feeling comes and goes, but is always strongest when i’ve returned from a predominantly white area). anyway, i enjoyed the release, enjoyed the new importance, and am looking forward to spending a narrow-minded time in hsinchu. having to go there every week will be a suitable excuse in regard to me to explore an area i’ve never seen.***it’s funny how i’ve come to miss things in taipei when i’m away, just as i miss things in the us. upon returning to the us, i always consume startling amounts of mountain dew, and there are a few things i absolutely be compelled eat while i have the chance - pizza from gianni’s and mexican food from el canelo in frostburg, a grilled stuft burrito with no meat from taco bell (the only fast food i actually like), a delicious meal at chick and ruth’s in annapolis, chinese food from the place in federalsburg, maryland crab soup and a crab cake sandwich from just about anywhere, etc., etc.now i’ve got a similar list in support of taipei. i’ve eaten sushi three times in the five days since i got back to taiwan. i really missed sushi express. i’ve also had the tom kha gai from the thai restaurant next to my apartment, palak paneer from taj, some winter melon tea, pearl milk tea (which cost a miserly $30 nt [$1 us], thankfully), and about a dozen wax apples from the fruit vendors in ximending.amusingly, most of the things i crave in both the us and taiwan are neither american nor taiwanese. for many of the items in the us, either i can’t be released c extract them in taiwan (maryland crab soup or american chinese nutriment, allowing for regarding instance) or the quality is wretched. for the ones on my taiwan careen, it’s partly about quality, but mostly about price. i’m starkly not going to pay $4 us because a small cup of pearl milk tea or $15 us for the same amount of sashimi i could get due to the fact that $6 us in taiwan.***because i’ve got a three-day weekend coming up, i get weekends off this summer, and i’m help with a vday presentation in kaohsiung at ???? in 2 weeks, i just bought the new unaccompanied planet taiwan. i’m trying to do more traveling within taiwan over the next year, and i like flipping totally travel books more than i like fraternize websites. i still might get to one of the other photo-heavy guides, as i’m more inspired by pictures than detailed descriptions and details on transport and pricing, and the lonely planet doesn’t offer many photos. on top of everything else, each guide contains things that the others left out, so getting a second guide makes profit intuition.***summer is upon us soon, and so i’ve moment again moved my bookmark fit the primary stand bureau from my dropdown listing of bookmarks to my usable bookmarks toolbar so i can keep a better watch for typhoon warnings. of course, typhoons never sneak up on us, so it’s not like those extra two seconds it takes to click on my bookmarks list make any incongruity, but when a typhoon is in the region, i have a weakness for to obsessively check its trail as regards changes.***another obsession i have… the different kids on the block’s reunion for a new album and tour. i consider i ought to start lobbying them to come to pass to taiwan, but for now, people in a few cities can count themselves lucky because the agglomeration has announced some tour dates starting in quebec in septembe
